Mission Statement
The Ruby Dolls make Cabaret Theatre inspired by theatrical storytelling and by the close part harmony music of the 1930s and 40s.
Our theatre is bold and beautiful. Employing the episodic, non-linear form of Cabaret and fusing it with the vivid storytelling of theatre. Mixing these two forms brings us freedom. It allows us to move playfully between genres, textures, and disciplines so we can tell each story according to its own rules.
From Cabaret we also take the personal dimension; we sing and tell real stories, stepping through the fourth wall to contact our audience.
In our latest piece 'Rubies In The Attic', we dig into our own attics and trace the physical and emotional journeys of our ancestors; their joys and their heartbreak. Intertwining Coward with Klezmer and Tango with African folk, all in close harmony, and exploring our cultural identities. We want our audience to be inspired do the same.
We know the kind of theatre we want to make and why, and are looking for creative partnerships to give this show, and future shows, longer lives.
With love
