rubies in the attic (2011 - 2012)

“Rubies In The Attic is a clever chow... Crafted tenderly enough to want to make me ball”
— The Observer

1898  An Italian boards a boat for America as a Russian Jew mistakes Cable Street for Cape Town.

1928  Isabel waits for a soldier on a horse.

1938  Pat spies a bald man at the bar.

Premiering in 2011 at the Jermyn Street Theatre in Piccadilly Circus, Rubies In The Attic explored how the past has shaped us all, through the true family histories of the four Dolls. Intertwining Coward with Klezmer and Tango with African folk, The Dolls crossed musical landscapes and political divides to unearth their beginnings and sing their way home. The production mixed live music with text, physical theatre and Bunraku puppetry. Following further performances at Riverside Studios in Hammersmith, The Dolls, co-produced by Assembly, made their Edinburgh festival debut with this show to critical acclaim in 2012.
